6 DIY EYE CARE REMEDIES TO TRY AT HOME

Caring for your eyes at home is not only rewarding but also empowering. Using natural ingredients to craft remedies adds a personal touch to your routine checkup, fostering a deeper connection to the well-being of your eyes. In this article, we will delve into imaginative methods to tackle puffiness and address signs of ageing, providing you with creative and effective solutions for maintaining the vibrancy of your eyes.

How To Apply Your Homemade Remedies

Applying a homemade eye care remedy requires a gentle and deliberate approach to ensure optimal results without causing undue stress to the delicate eye area. Begin by washing your hands thoroughly to prevent any transfer of impurities. For added precision, pick up a small amount of the homemade remedy using a clean applicator, such as the pad of your forefinger or the smaller surface area of your pinky.

With soft tapping motions, apply the remedy from the inside bottom of the eye, moving gently towards the outside and then around the eye area. Be attentive to include the skin under your eyebrows. The key is to avoid rubbing or smearing, allowing the remedy to be absorbed naturally.

This method promotes effective absorption of the remedy’s beneficial properties while showing respect to the sensitive skin around your eyes. Incorporating this mindful application technique enhances the overall efficacy of your homemade eye care remedy.

  1. Basic Eye Cream

You’ll need a blender for emulsification to create this essential DIY eye cream.

Ingredients:

  • 1/3 cup aloe vera gel
  • 2 tablespoons filtered water
  • 1 capsule of vitamin E oil
  • 3 tablespoons beeswax
  • 2 tablespoons rosehip seed oil
  • 3 tablespoons almond oil
  • 5-6 drops of lavender oil

Steps:

  1. Combine aloe vera gel, filtered water, and the contents of 1 capsule of vitamin E oil in a bowl.
  2. Warm to 90 degrees in a double-boiler or microwave and set aside.
  3. Heat beeswax, rosehip seed oil, and almond oil in a double boiler until completely melted. Remove from heat and pour gently into your blender.
  4. Blend on the lowest setting for 10 seconds, then slowly add the aloe vera and water mixture (like 10 drops) while the blender is low.
  5. Combining the two mixtures should take several minutes; this is the emulsification process.
  6. Keep blending until it’s a creamy consistency you are happy with. Add a few drops of lavender oil, and stop blending.
  7. Use a spatula to store it in containers of your choice.
  1. Brightening Olive Oil Salve

Geranium and bergamot essential oils give a fresh and bright scent to this homemade olive oil salve, rich in fat-soluble vitamins like vitamin E and K that are beneficial for all skin types.

Ingredients:

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons shea butter
  • 1 teaspoon argan oil
  • 4 drops of geranium essential oil
  • 3 drops bergamot essential oil

Steps:

  1. Combine olive oil, shea butter, and argan oil in a heat-proof bowl.
  2. Heat gently until all ingredients are melted together.
  3. Remove from heat and add 3-4 drops of geranium essential oil and 2-3 drops of bergamot essential oil.
  4. Cool for a few minutes and pour into a container; the mix will harden but still soft enough to dab.
  5. Apply as needed.
  1. The Puffy Eyes Rescue

Sometimes, you wake up in the morning, and your eyes look like they’ve been pumped. Puffy and unattractive. No! This quick emergency rescue can be kept in the freezer for over a year.

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup of your favourite milk (nut milk like almond or hazelnut is best, but any milk will work)
  • 1/4 cup aloe vera gel
  • 4 cucumber slices with most of the skin removed
  • Mint leaves
  • Tablespoon almond oil

Steps:

  1. Mix milk, aloe vera gel, and 3-4 thick cucumber slices in a blender.
  2. Add mint leaves and almond oil. Blend for 2 minutes.
  3. Pour the blended mix into an ice cube tray and freeze.
  4. When needed, pop out the ice tray, wrap it in a thin fabric (like a bandana), lie down, and gently pat the eye area. It will slowly melt, which is fine. Let the mixture soak into your skin and see the magic!

4. Avocado eye moisturiser

This one-time-use mask is perfect for deep moisturising and calming around the eyes.

How to prepare:

  1. Mash up 1/4 of an avocado in a bowl using a fork.
  2. Add a teaspoon of aloe vera gel and 5-6 drops of sweet almond or grapeseed oil and mix.
  3. Apply around the eye, being careful not to get any in your eye. Lie down for 5-10 minutes while the mask works.
  4. Rinse off (don’t use soap if you can avoid it). Pat dry and apply your regular eye cream.

 5. Frozen coffee cubes

Caffeine does more than wake your brain up on slow days. It does well in stimulating circulation when applied to the eye area. It also has antioxidant properties that may help reduce the risk of wrinkles around the eye area.

  1. To make the coffee cubes, boil a cup of water and stir in a spoon of coffee powder.
  2. Pour coffee into an ice cube tray and freeze.
  3. Lie down and circle frozen cubes on closed eyelids to rejuvenate and brighten the skin around the eye area.

6. Green tea bags

Beyond coffee, green tea is an antioxidant-rich beverage with potential under-eye benefits. With its caffeine content, green tea, an everyday kitchen staple, has anti-inflammatory properties that can be soothing for puffy eyelids.

Green tea protects the skin from environmental stressors and can contribute to firming and tightening, thanks to its caffeine content. To experience these benefits, consider using cotton pads soaked in cooled green tea or applying cold tea bags directly to the eye area.

Remember, the application technique is crucial for optimal results and should involve a gentle tapping motion to allow the remedy’s absorption without causing stress to the delicate eye area.

Whether crafting a basic eye cream, a brightening olive oil salve, or a rescue remedy for puffy eyes, these homemade solutions provide creative and effective alternatives for maintaining vibrant and youthful eyes. From nourishing avocado eye masks to invigorating frozen coffee cubes and the soothing properties of green tea, these remedies cater to various needs. Embrace the simplicity and natural goodness of these DIY treatments to enhance your precious eyes’ overall well-being and radiance.
